Rothschild & Co
I studied Industrial Engineering in Bilbao (Spain, my country of origin) and Copenhagen (Denmark). I started my career in business consulting (Accenture) in Spain and subsequently moved to Paris to study business. I then moved to London where I lived and worked for 6 years (Capital Markets, Bank of America Merrill Lynch "BofAML").
In London, I met Andrea, my husband and father of our two daughters, Nike and Chloe. We decided to move to Milan, where, career-wise, I had to start all over again. I learned Italian while commuting to Lugano to work for a small private bank (Banca Zarattini, a client of mine at BofAML). Once I mastered the language, I found a job in Milan, at Rothschild & Co (Asset Management division), where I currently work as a Director, responsible for the Italian wholesale business and for the Spanish market.
Within finance, my true passion is Impact Investing. I strongly believe that finance can be a force for good and that Impact Investing can help us humans achieve the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs). The world needs trillions of USD to achieve the UN SDGs before 2030. Currently, there are billions invested (by governments and philanthropy mainly) to achieve these goals. That's way too little. The good news is that the money exists: it is in private hands. We need this private capital to achieve the world's most pressing goals and Finance can be the bridge that allows this capital to reach the other shore, i.e., to reach those who are most in need, as well as to build a greener and cleaner planet for everyone. At Rothschild, we are currently launching a Microfinance investment fund. We are also exploring the feasibility of launching a European Affordable Real Estate fund (my personal initiative).
My other passion is Gender Equality (SDG #5). I am working tirelessly both inside and outside my organization to promote Gender Equality.
Outside Rothschild, I co-founded MWE with my dear friend Simonetta Cristofari. MWE's mission is to build a clear moral and economic case for gender parity and for an inclusive culture in the financial industry. For us, gender is just a starting point for addressing diversity: our vision is an industry that welcomes everyone, regardless of gender, background, sexual orientation, age, race, ethnicity or religion. An industry that becomes more diverse, more inclusive, more human, more social and more environmental.
Inside Rothschild, I am also a Gender Parity advocate and a member of the Women Leadership Forum (WLF), an initiative launched by Alexandre de Rothschild a year ago, a month after taking over the leadership of the firm from his father David. I have attached a couple papers I wrote as a member of this initiative.
I am also a volunteer of the Rothschild in the Community program; I am the mentor of a brilliant high school student (female) from an economically disadvantaged background. My role is to support her in the pursuit of her aspirations and to make a meaningful difference in her professional life.
I am engaged in all of the above because I believe that the world we want to leave to future generations will come by choice, and not by chance. We can choose to contribute to positive change. As women, we need to stand together because one woman can be ignored, ten women can be discarded, but all of us together constitute half of the population and we become unstoppable. At this crucial point in history (with raising inequalities, increasing social, political and cultural divisions, rapid technological change disrupting entire industries and the post-war international order at risk), it is crucial for men and women to stand united and work hand in hand to build a fair, inclusive and sustainable future, for EVERYONE.
